Mike was living in his own apartment, but he was lonely and didn’t feel comfortable interacting with others. He and his parents were searching for programs to help Mike increase his social skills. On My Own of Michigan’s Skill-Building Program was a great fit for Mike as it is designed to help members develop and practice social interaction skills and increase opportunities for social network development. Since Mike joined OMO in 2010, he has built an active social life. “On My Own helped me to meet my girlfriend and brought me out of my shell.” As with many OMO members, Mike’s favorite class is Bowling. On My Own’s popular Bowling class provides opportunities to practice social skills and build friendships. Mike lives a full life – he enjoys his job at Kroger, spending time with his girlfriend, watching movies, reading, and latch-hooking.
